- The U.S. has begun collecting DNA samples from migrants at the border.
The Trump administration began a pilot program on Monday, collecting DNA from migrants and asylum seekers at certain ports of entry at the U.S.-Mexico and U.S.-Canada borders. DNA from both adults and teens is being collected. This is the first step to a plan to have DNA profiles on all migrants in immigration custody, even on those without any criminal history. DHS has said that those who do not give consent to the DNA swab could be criminally prosecuted.
