- An appeals court upheld an injunction halting Trump?s health insurance requirement for immigration. On May 4, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a preliminary injunction that temporarily halted the Trump administration?s requirement that prospective immigrants have proof of health insurance coverage. The injunction applies nationwide while litigation about the policy continues. Now, the Trump administration may appeal this ruling to the Supreme Court.
- Border apprehensions have dropped to near-zero amid the pandemic. April 2020 saw 98.5% fewer border apprehensions than April 2019. Between April 1 and April 29, 2020, ICE arrested 1,420 people for illegal border crossings. During the pandemic, the U.S. and Mexico have agreed to close the border to nonessential travel, while the U.S. has ramped up expedited removal as well.
