DHS has exempted some foreign athletes from travel restrictions
- A second person in ICE custody has died of COVID-19. On Sunday, a 34-year-old man named Santiago Baten-Oxlag, who was in ICE custody, died from COVID-19 complications. Before being admitted to a hospital in Columbus, Georgia, he was detained at the Stewart Detention Center, a privately-run prison. Advocates have criticized ICE for continuing to detain many immigrants who are at a higher risk for COVID-19, and for allegedly not adhering to CDC recommendations for infection prevention.

The judge wrote that broader sanctions may have been warranted but were not implemented since the federal government had already lost on the issue of the citizenship question and sanctions would no longer change the outcome of the case.
- Lawmakers have asked for explanations on family separations in detention. There have been recent reports of detained immigrant families being made to choose whether to release their children and separate the family or keep the entire family in detention. A director of one legal services group said that these discussions with ICE agents left clients ?feeling that they were asked to say goodbye to their children,? particularly since COVID-19 poses extra risks to those in detention. In response to these reports, Democratic lawmakers penned a letter to DHS and ICE on May 21 asking for an explanation.
