The federal government has laws requiring contractors to, among other things, provide the government with certified cost data so that costs are not inflated. The Trump administration said on Tuesday that it is waiving these contracting laws in order to speed up construction of the border wall. The authority to waive the laws comes from a 2005 law out of Congress. So far, during Donald Trump?s presidency, 16 waivers have been issued, while under George W. Bush a total of 5 were issued.

- The ACLU is filing a FOIA request to stop ICE records from being deleted. In December, an ICE request to delete records was granted. The request to delete records, which was filed in 2015 under the Obama administration, would include documents relating to detainee deaths, sexual assaults, and abuse allegations while in ICE custody. On Tuesday, the ACLU is filed a FOIA request to get access to the documents before they are deleted. The ACLU has argued that these documents should be protected in order to keep ICE accountable in the future.

- A Mexican tourist shot in the face by ICE has filed a lawsuit. Earlier this month, an ICE arrest in Brooklyn resulted in a struggle between ICE agents and two men, only one of which was being arrested. In the struggle, one of the ICE agents shot one of the men point-blank in the face. This man, who was visiting the U.S. on a tourist visa at the time, was involved in the conflict because the man being arrested was his mother?s partner. He survived the gunshot with heavy injuries, and on Tuesday filed suit against the federal officer, who is unnamed in court documents.
